JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Aims to Resolve the Anime's Major Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an original feature. Rather, the newest cinematic release from the Jujutsu Kaisen supernatural series serves as a collection of the show's sophomore season stitched together with the initial episodes of its next season, which begins the Culling Games storyline from the original manga. This makes Execution, which recently received a latest teaser, the first way to view the start of the upcoming season ahead of its 2026 January debut. The feature launches in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Plot

In the Culling Games plot, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the show and is tasked by sorcery authorities to take down his peer Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle occurs for the first time on the cinema screen, and if the animators at Mappa have a treat as installments 40 and 41 waiting in the wings for fans this end-of-year period, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the gift that everyone has hoped for.

The Thunderclap Issue

"Thunderclap" from season two is widely regarded as one of the greatest sequences in anime history, notwithstanding the major issues in 2023 when the episodes first debuted. It was reported that the animation team were suffering from crunch conditions to the extent, and the final version that aired at the time was not fully polished and allegedly not what the team originally planned.

The Intense Confrontation

The sequence showcases a much-hyped confrontation between two strong jujutsu users, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It features innovative art style, excellent direction, and dynamic fight choreography. A later physical media version provided an opportunity to include extra footage to flesh out the battle. So it appeared likely Execution could enhance the fight further. However, looking at the latest preview, it's difficult to determine if that fight has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it hadn't, because a moment so epic has to be seen on the largest display with the optimal viewing experience.

Season Two Success

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become 2024's anime of the year, and when the Thunderclap episodes were released back to back, it was the focus of attention for an extended period in the series' fanbase. Audiences had heard of the issues behind the scenes, which made them value what they viewed even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the disc version, made available on March 18, would include new footage to the fight or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were overjoyed to see precisely that, alongside tone adjustments, more motion, and revised visual style.

The Feature's Advantage

But the physical release can only touch up what has already been presented in the television version, whereas the movie has the opportunity to properly present the moment with additional alterations and new animations entirely.

A Crowning Achievement

At present, these two episodes serve as the magnum opus of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be treated as such by the studio, notably because of the debate they encountered at the time. It's drawn the focus of series enthusiasts all over the planet, and the Culling Games is a highly awaited story of the coming year. If Mappa wants to begin the year strongly, revisit the anime's greatest sequence once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've experienced so far.
