Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
