Nigel Farage Accuses Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike shortly after a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by telling children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their unions for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks suggested the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We face an enormous task with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind rather than current practices where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and millions of days of lost learning for students.
During the American gathering, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to your online courses. I make that commitment now and I will follow through.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
