Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has signed with Sheffield United only half a year following instigating insulting taunts targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a agreement with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His lengthy spell at Elland Road was ended amicably this past summer.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the former England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull the team he loves away from the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Involving Bamford & the Manager
Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
Everything seems to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that is an integral part of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Playing Challenges
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
