Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the top-flight season.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic links to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton Town manager - who played over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a surprising choice given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham midfielder is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any compensation.
