Severe Rains Aggravate Situation for Uprooted Gazans, UN Alert

Almost 55,000 households have so far been impacted by the storms, with their items and dwellings ruined.

Heavy storms over the past week have worsened the extremely difficult circumstances of the vast number of uprooted civilians in the Gaza Strip, according to relief agencies.

"Terrible" Conditions Poses Serious Risks

A spokesman detailed the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with downpours so severe that as much as 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.

"Last night was exceptionally terrible for the people. The storms were so strong... And the gusts were so powerful," said the official.

Officials express grave anxiety that children living in temporary structures in wet attire will contract hypothermia and other illnesses.

Fatalities and Widespread Destruction

Medical officials have reported that one baby has died from hypothermia and no fewer than 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins caused by the harsh conditions.

Other reports indicate a higher death toll. Spokespeople said that numerous structures had totally fallen and many others had sustained partial collapse.

Relief Operations Seen as Not Enough

Groups have stepped up distribution of shelter, warm covers and clothes since the ceasefire commenced, but they stress there is remains not enough aid entering.

"We are striving constantly to deliver that aid and to allocate it, but the scale of the requirements is so vast that we are faced with a great number of people and minors who are truly suffering every night," stated one official.

Future Concerns and Agreement Provisions

The next stage of the agreement encompasses arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the pullback of military forces, and other conditions.

Humanitarian organizations have underscored the necessity for "expanded and ongoing aid to address urgent and ongoing needs."

The war was sparked by an assault in late 2023. Following actions have resulted in a significant number of casualties in the area, based on official figures.
