A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old entertainer was confronted by a trio of assailants, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.

The motive behind the attack is unknown and no arrests are in custody, as per the official statement.

How It Happened

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a premises in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the building supervising the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, according to reports.

"It is alleged the man was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement said.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a security uniform firing shots on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the assault.

Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were discovered at the location.

Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have have information to come forward.

"We know they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been attempting to locate them to find their location," stated a police chief.

His family member, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

"I am in shock. I don't have words," she stated.

In a communication, the channel he worked for declared Stock was known for his magnetism, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will live on".
