A individual accused with stalking Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has repeatedly declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and information retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most widely reported child disappearance cases and continues to be unsolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

One phone message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I feel what I feel."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What then? Is that not significant for you?"

"I don't want money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I just want to understand," the message continued.

The tribunal was informed that by means of emails, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.

The investigator, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also reached out to close associates of the McCanns, according to the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, Mr McCann answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I won't give up and I will prove my claim."

The court heard the co-defendant struck up a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in that winter.

Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be considered genuine in the months leading up to the appearance to Rothley, the county, in last December.

The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in November 2024, planning trying to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her bins or from utensils at a dining venue.

"We need to assert ourselves," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the visit to their house, the defendant transmitted a message which said: "We're currently positioned near the McCanns' house with our lights out similar to investigators. I wanted to do this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."

The trial continues.
