The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC

Line of Duty cast members
Martin Compston are set to reprise their roles in the popular crime series

The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.

The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."

The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived this week.

New Challenges for The Team

Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

New Character and Complex Case

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.

Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had countless fans watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."

Show History

The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.

The BBC has not yet announced exactly the new season will hit screens.

The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no plans for further series.

However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
