Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.

He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.

Memorials across the state have occurred in their honor.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told reporters. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Support

Attendees assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in the capital.

Paying Tribute to the Soldier

“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the head of her previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to assist people.”

Service plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Legal Measures and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy led the government to halt asylum processing and halt providing visas to holders of Afghan passports.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.

He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.

Attorney general Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with his relatives.

Memory of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with honor, as stated by the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
